About Thomas
Thomas Lyons is a casualty Broker specializing in construction as a member of Brown & Riding’s national Construction Practice, as well as real estate risks including habitational portfolios, LROs, and vacant land. Within the construction sector, he focuses on residential and commercial project policies, including OCIP/CCIP programs, Owner’s Interest, and Owners and Contractors Protective coverage. He works with owners, general contractors, residential and commercial contractors, national and local contractors, artisans, and paper general contractors.
Thomas helps clients navigate the complexities of construction risk by reviewing contracts, identifying potential coverage gaps, and adapting programs to changing market conditions. He works closely with underwriters to advocate for his clients and structures programs that balance strong coverage with practical cost considerations. He enjoys the strategic problem-solving required to find effective solutions for each unique account. As a professional, Thomas prioritizes building long-term relationships based on trust, transparency, and consistency. He believes in clearly communicating coverage options, being candid about potential gaps, and ensuring clients fully understand the decisions they are making. By anticipating risk exposures and staying ahead of market developments, he helps clients think strategically about risk management rather than simply reacting at renewal time.
From an early age, Thomas was drawn to insurance as a career. His relatives in the industry introduced him to the multifaceted, relationship-driven nature of the business. Thomas began his career in insurance in 2020 at Brown & Riding as a Production Assistant. Since then, he progressed through several casualty roles before being promoted to Broker in January 2026. Prior to joining Brown & Riding, he spent a year working as an auditor at a public accounting firm.
A 2019 graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He also holds both the AINS and CRIS designations. He regularly attends the IRMI Construction Risk Conference, where he engages with carriers and clients to discuss project pipelines, market conditions, coverage concerns, and emerging industry challenges. Outside of work, Thomas is an avid golfer and enjoys attending live sporting events, particularly Chicago Cubs games.
