Paul Bontempo has been with Brown & Riding since 2012 and has over 30 years of industry experience. He was drawn to Brown & Riding’s culture and says, “I started the best chapter of my career with Brown & Riding. I would not have changed a thing, anything really, save coming to work at B&R earlier than I actually did.”
Paul began his insurance career in 1991 as a Commercial Lines Underwriter. After four years, he accepted a position at another firm as a large accounts Casualty Underwriter, writing Auto, General Liability, and Workers’ Comp. After eight years on the underwriting side, he had built a substantial foundation in commercial P&C insurance underwriting, actuarial, and claims, and he decided he wanted to go into the sales side of the commercial P&C industry. “I wanted something more in line with an entrepreneurial spirit as opposed to a corporate culture,” he says. So, he accepted a position as an Excess & Surplus Lines Casualty Broker, and after four years’ time helped another firm open their Atlanta office. While he enjoyed being on the wholesale side, after several years the company began going through much growth via acquisition. Paul decided he “needed to get back to the entrepreneurial culture that built the E&S wholesale industry,” which is when he joined Brown & Riding.
