Guy Rawlins has extensive experience in placing challenging frame habitational exposures in coastal areas from Texas through to Florida and up the Atlantic Coast. Placements have ranged from a single shot 1,500 unit HUD apartment complex in Houston to large national garden style frame apartment schedules with over 20,000 units and total insured values in excess of $1,000,000,000 with key Wind exposures in Harris County/Coastal Texas and Florida.
Guy joined Brown & Riding in 2008 and has over 34 years of experience in the insurance industry spanning underwriting, reinsurance, and wholesale insurance broking. He began his career as an Assistant Underwriter in London from 1988 to 1991. There, he wrote an international book of business which included real estate, hotels, sawmills, jewelers block, and mining accounts. From 1991 to 1996, he was Associate Director of a global Property team specializing in Fortune 1000 North American placements. In 1996, Guy joined an underwriting company in Houston, Texas to lead their reinsurance intermediary unit. He placed facultative reinsurance on their large complex global property book, which included municipalities, utility companies, auto manufacturers, mining risks, and petrochemical exposures. He was a member of the largest property team at another leading wholesale brokerage from 2000 to 2008, handling annual written premiums in excess of $125,000,000. He led the marketing and placement of large, layered property risks with catastrophic driven exposures, as well as national schedules and hard-to-place risks such as motor truck cargo and storage exposures in Iraq after the 2003 invasion. Guy specializes in large complex shared and layered placements with Catastrophic exposures as well as challenging fire risks that include food processors, woodworkers and recyclers.
